Investigation Summary

Muncaster Castle near Ravenglass, Cumbria is a Grade I listed, privately owned castle that has been the seat of the Pennington family since at least 1208. It dates architecturally from the 13th century (pele tower 14th century) and was significantly remodelled by Anthony Salvin (1860–1866). Henry VI sheltered here in 1464, presenting the Luck of Muncaster glass bowl.

During the Second World War approximately 700 Tate artworks were evacuated here. The castle has an established paranormal reputation centred on the Tapestry Room, the alleged spirit of court jester Thomas Skelton (Tom Fool), and the White Lady (Mary Bragg). Paranormal claims are rated Low/Unknown for evidentiary quality.
