Investigation Summary

Mont-Saint-Michel is a tidal island and medieval abbey in Normandy, France, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. Founded as a Benedictine abbey in 966 CE, it served as a state prison from the Revolution until 1863. On 2 October 1932, five tourists drowned in the equinoctial tide near the mount, reported contemporaneously by the New York Times.

The island was liberated from German occupation on 1 August 1944 by Private Freeman Brougher (US Army). The abbey receives approximately three million visitors annually. Paranormal claims originate entirely from tourism blogs and YouTube content without primary sourcing.
