Investigation Summary
The Kapunda Mine (Kapunda, South Australia) was Australia's first commercially successful copper mine, operational 1844–1879. It introduced multiple Australian firsts: first horse whim in the colony (1845), first Cornish beam engine in Australia (1848), first smelter in the colony (1849), and first open-cut mining in Australia (1865). The SA Heritage Register site (1987) retains the 1850 stone chimney, Charlotte Open Cut, and other physical remains.
Paranormal claims circulating in ghost-tour and entertainment sources are unverified; no primary-source evidence supports any individual claim.
