Investigation Summary

Hoia Baciu Forest is a beech forest on the western edge of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, containing Romania's oldest known Neolithic settlement (c. 6500 BC). It is internationally known for paranormal and UFO claims, principally Emil Barnea's 1968 photographs of an alleged disc-shaped object and a circular clearing (Poiana Rotundă) where vegetation does not grow.

Biologist Alexandru Sift investigated from the early 1960s; chemistry professor Adrian Pătruț has documented repeatable electromagnetic anomalies from the 1970s onward. Paranormal claims include apparitions, UFO sightings, and visitor symptoms. No evidence has been independently verified to a standard sufficient to confirm anomalous causation.
