France · Brissac-Quincé
Investigation Summary
Renaissance and Gothic château at Brissac-Quincé, Maine-et-Loire, France. 204 rooms. 1430–1465; inherited by Jacques de Brézé.
Passed to the Cossé family in 1502 and substantially rebuilt from 1611 by Charles II de Cossé. Louis XIII and Marie de Medici reconciled at Brissac in August 1620. Classified as monument historique.
The principal paranormal claim is the "Green Lady" (La Dame Verte), attributed to Charlotte de Valois — illegitimate daughter of King Charles VII and Agnès Sorel, wife of Jacques de Brézé — who was murdered by her husband on the night of 31 May/1 June 1477. The murder is historically confirmed. However, the location is disputed: French Wikipedia and genealogical sources (Geni) place the murder at Rouvre, Eure-et-Loir, not at Brissac.
No independently verifiable named witness to the Green Lady apparition has been identified. All paranormal claims are Low confidence pending resolution of the location dispute.
