Investigation Summary
A medieval stave church in Borgund, Lærdal municipality, Vestland county, Norway, dendrochronologically dated to c. 1180–1181 AD and dedicated to the Apostle Andrew. Approximately 85% of the original medieval timber survives, making it the best-preserved stave church in Norway.
Features include the only remaining free-standing stave-work bell tower in Norway (c. 1250 AD), the oldest post-Reformation pulpit in Norway (1550–1570), multiple runic inscriptions including one invoking the Norse Norns (interpreted by scholars as reflecting residual pre-Christian folk belief), and apotropaic architectural design (dragon-head finials, narrow windows, decorated portals). Managed by Fortidsminneforeningen since 1877.
PRN research found no paranormal witness accounts of any kind for this location; it is recorded as a site of significant historical and architectural importance only.
