Investigation Summary

A Classified Federal Heritage Building and National Historic Site in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Constructed c. 1840–41 by Charles Hales; Sir John A.

Macdonald rented the house in 1848–49 during which his infant son John Alexander Jr. died. Five Macdonald letters from the period are among the primary historical sources.

The house has operated as a Parks Canada historic site since 1967. All paranormal claims consist of anonymous anecdotal reports from visitors and staff since 1967, sourced through a secondary article and a ghost-tour operator's book (Glen Shackleton, *Ghosts of Kingston*, 2007); no primary documentation was found. The 1840–41 deaths of Charles Hales's infant son and wife Elizabeth at the property are also noted in Shackleton's work as a possible alternative origin for the ghost narrative.
