Aradale Asylum

A large Victorian-era psychiatric complex in Ararat, western Victoria, Australia. Operational 1867–1993/94, the complex housed both a public asylum and J Ward (criminally insane patients, 1886–1991). Official administrative records held at the Public Records Office Victoria (PROV) span 1867–1944 and include death tallies; the widely circulated claim of 13,000 deaths has not been verified against these archival records.

Paranormal claims derive entirely from commercial ghost tour operators and unaffiliated paranormal investigation groups; no named, independently verifiable witness accounts were found. Now operates as a Melbourne Polytechnic campus and commercial paranormal events venue.
